Sony SmartWatch and Pebble Smart watches for iPhone and Android

And so, Pebble is the new smart watch is arrazando in Kickstarter a place where anyone can place their products and people can donate money to come true. Well to make this project needed $ 100.000 and less than 28 hours have raised $ 1,000,000 , without a doubt a success.

For developers that made ??Pebble smart clock that works with e-Ink that makes consuming less battery power.
The device has Bluetooth, and up vibrator used acelerómeto ifttt.com to communicate with your Android phone or iPhone, apart from that you will be able to change the subject on your phone, check your Twitter and to know who’s calling.
And why the success of Pebble ? because it has a very good design, super minimalist, except that people liked to use screen e-Ink makes the battery last much longer (the battery lasts up to 7 days ) and the chance to access the SDK where anyone can build applications for it.

Pebble will cost approximately $ 115 in Kickstarter also had a price of $ 99 but this promotion has expired.

On the other hand Sony has introduced its Smart Clock also called Sony SmartWatch , who was known as LiveView 2 , this watch was first seen at CES and is now available for all.

The watch is only compatible with Android 2.0 + , has Bluetooth 3.0 and the battery lasts about 2 days and a delay in loading 6 hours because the technology does not use e-Ink as the Pebble . Thanks to Sony SmartWatch no longer necessary to get the phone to answer, since you can do so from the same clock, in addition you will receive text messages, emails and notifications from different social networks. Like Pebble ‘ll be able to control the music from the same clock.

One thing that strikes the SmartWatch is the number of applications available to you, unfortunately this watch is only available for Android and iPhone users who (like me) were out.

Raven is now called Robin: It’s still an excellent way to enter webapps [Mac]

Raven, application mentioned in the past as a great tool to have web services as “apps”, has changed its name to Robin, but retains all the features that make it a permanent resident on my Mac
Raven is a web browser based on Webkit (as Safari / Chrome) but instead of letting us browse all the web sites, focuses on some of the most popular services like Facebook, Google + Twitter Tumblr, among others. Therefore, we consider it as a dedicated browser to our social networks, very useful if we keep them separate from our normal navigation.
Raven is now called Robin
It is a good way to quickly jump between social networks, for example, and let Robin in our secondary monitor, while we have our primary browser on the primary monitor. And of course, if the browser to freeze completely, our networks and e-tabs will remain open.

In addition to simply offer tabs, Robin also includes sub-categories, we are able to reach certain sections of each of the webapps. The Facebook, for example, let us quickly jump between the wall posts, our friends, and events.
In short, an excellent tool to keep most webapps use, always available.

Instagram in Windows, with Pokki Instagrille

In Pokki we’ve talked in the past . This is a company that creates interfaces for webapps, to behave natively, as if they were applications for Windows. And now, using all the furor that caused the release of Android Instagram , just released a pretty nice webapp to access the service from Windows.
Instagrille is an application that not only notified of new pictures posted by our friends, but also:

  • We will comment on photos
  • Like give the pictures that we like.
  • Check our photos

Instagram in Windows, with Pokki Instagrille
Basically, everything we do in the social network unless, of course, upload photos.
The application has Pokki style, with a rather elegant interface and well used, good transitions, and in fact pretty well captures the “feel” of Instagram in general. Can access the popular photo feed, and even browse the network, without requiring an account.
The only bad thing is that only available on Windows. Hopefully we will soon be launched versions for other operating systems

Electrowetting Displays (EWD), The Future of ereaders and Tablets?

We talked about the advantages of e-ink in the review of the Kindle 4 , but imagine combining this technology with the advantages of the LCD screen even in a flexible?
This is the promise of the electrowetting display, created by Liquavista. The company was acquired by Samsung last year and apparently, several advances are being made ??with technology that could flourish in 2013, according , who report that Johan Feenstra, Liquavista’s founder, said the technology could be used in tablets and e-readers from next year.
Electrowetting Displays EWD,
The demo above is quite old (2010), but demonstrate the advantages of electrowetting display: a difference of an LCD can display text and images in light as clear as the sun indoors. And unlike an e-ink display (like the Kindle), you can refresh the screen immediately, which allows the device to display videos, animations, and any animated object (instead of only text or static images).
Another advantage of adopting e-ink displays, is the low power consumption. At present, are screens which consume much enrgía. Just look at an unarmed iPad to realize that all the weight and size of the device, due to the large batteries needed to give us 9-10 hours of use. And because the efficiency of the batteries is evolving slowly, other technology for screens could be the solution for not only more durable devices (imagine a tablet that we have to recharge once a month?), But also much lighter.

But of course, all this is still theory, since there is no production model that uses this technology yet. However, if the story is true and tweakers of products with EWD displays begin to appear in 2012, could be potentially interesting in front of a revolution, at least for e-book readers that use E-Ink technology (which has stalled in the last 2 years).
